Abdullah makes Jet Award watch list
Sophomore running back and return specialist Ameer Abdullah was named to mid-season Jet Award watch list. The Jet Award is named after former Husker and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers and is awarded annually to the top return specialist in the country.
Abdullah is one of 12 players on the list, joining Tavon Austin (West Virginia), Dri Archer (Kent State), Mike Edwards (Hawai’i), Rashad Green (Florida State), Duke Johnson (Miami), Tyler Lockett (Kansas State), Venric Mark (Northwestern), Marcus Murphy (Missouri), Coradelle Patterson (Tennessee), Ace Sanders (South Carolina), and Tre Watts (Tulsa). The list will be trimmed to four finalists in November.
Abdullah currently leads in the Big Ten in punt return yards (214), yards per return (16.46) and touchdowns (1). He’s also averaging 20.77 yards per kickoff return to rank sixth in the conference.
Arkansas’ Joe Adams was named the first ever winner of the Jet Award last year. This year’s winer will be announced at a December ceremony in Omaha.

Shocking, since The Jet created the award last year, after watching Abdullah play. If Ameer is even in the running at the end of the season, expect him to win it.
