Recruit Profile: ATH Nathan Gerry

ATH Nathan Gerry | Sioux Falls, S.D. – Washington HS | 6-2, 206

RANKINGS (stars, position rank): It’s not easy getting noticed out of South Dakota, much less as an “athlete” without a defined position. The major recruiting services only list three prospects total from the Mount Rushmore State, and Gerry’s the best of them.

Rivals: 3-star, 34 | Scout: 3-star, 73 | 247Sports: 3-star, 90

WHO ELSE WAS INTERESTED: Iowa, Iowa State, and Michigan State were the big ones with offers in addition to all of Gerry’s smaller local schools. Arizona State was also showing some interest before he committed to Nebraska in June.

HOW HE FITS: Don’t be fooled by the small state pedigree, Gerry is the type of player Bo Pelini loves — fast, physical, and big enough to stop the run. Gerry played some linebacker in high school, but he seems like a sure fit at safety at Nebraska. As a senior, Gerry had 64 total tackles, 5 interceptions, and 5 pass breakups according to MaxPreps. He also added nearly 600 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns on offense. Oh, and he punted too as Washington High made its fourth consecutive appearance in the state title game this season. There’s a lot of athleticism here and Gerry could end up being the steal of the 2013 class.

HOW HE LOOKS: Well, just watch the way he tackles in the video below. There’s a lot for Nebraska fans to like here.

This kid is the real deal! He is big and fast. Watched him play multiple times here in Sioux Falls and he hits hard!

I didn't have the chance to see him in person, but I believe you. I could see him holding down the safety spot for a few years for Nebraska. I think he might be the biggest value in the class.
