Elkhorn South quarterback Carson Rauner’s recruitment could take a major turn in the coming weeks.
Rauner, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound 2024 signal caller had an impressive weekend at the Elite 11 Regionals in State College, PA.
“I think I did well,” he said of his experience at the camp. “It was a great camp; I ran a 4.62 40 (yard dash) 4.06 pro agility and a 30-inch vertical jump. I got to go up against some of the top quarterbacks in the region. I saw some committed guys and power conference offer guys. It was a really good experience to see how I stack up against some other guys across the country.”
On his way to State College he made a quick unofficial visit to Pittsburgh to tour their campus and meet a few coaches.
Memorial Day weekend starts what could be a life changing month for Rauner. He plans on visiting Fordham, Colgate and Holy Cross.
“I have a few other camps lined up for June,” he said. “Lindenwood Mega Camp, Princeton, Iowa State and North Dakota State are the main ones I plan on hitting this year.”
Missouri is a school that has shown recent interest in Rauner. Last week, Bellevue West quarterback Daniel Kaelin decommitted from Missouri and flipped to Nebraska.
“I’ve talked to Missouri a little bit more recently,” he said. “They (Missouri) said they want me to come to camp on June 1 so they can see me throw in person.”
Could the 2024 in-state class have multiple Power Conference quarterbacks? Rauner, along with Westside quarterback Anthony Rezac would be the top targets if that were to happen.
“I consider myself to be in that conversation, I think last season I proved myself and that I can be one of those guys,” he said. “Our team last year had a lot of success and our offense really opened up late last year when I proved I can run and throw the ball effectively.”
Rauner hasn’t focused all his attention on the bigger schools.
“I’ve had contact with North Dakota State, South Dakota and Holy Cross are a few schools that haven’t offered yet,” he said. “A lot of schools want to see me throw in person. USD and NDSU both watched me throw in-person this spring. Princeton is another that wants to see me in-person, that is why I’m going to their camp.”
Rauner had a quarterback rating of 105.3 while passing for 1,602 yards, 13 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a completion percentage of 60 last season. He was second on the team with a rushing average of 10.9 (43 carries, 468 yards).
A dual-threat quarterback, sure why not.
“A lot of schools want to see me run in college,” he said. “I see myself as a dual threat quarterback.”
