Sophomore right-hander Matt Waldron is slated to start at CSU-Bakersfield on Tuesday night as the 9-8 Nebraska baseball team tries to extend a four-game winning streak.
Waldron, who began the season as a weekend starter, is 1-2 with 4.12 earned-run-average. He pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief during Friday’s 10-1 victory against College of Charleston after picking up a victory in a start against Northern Colorado 10 days earlier.
He allowed eight hits and two earned runs in five innings of that game.
CSU-Bakersfield is 4-2 all-time against Nebraska, with the last meeting a 9-4 victory at Bakersfield in 2013. The Roadrunners are 10-5 this season, having played two common opponents. They went 1-2 against Utah and 2-1 against UC Riverside. The Huskers were 1-1 against both at neutral sites.
Angelo Altavilla leads Nebraska in hitting, with a .354 average and in on-base percentage (.453). Mojo Hagge (.339) and Scott Schreiber (.328) are the other regulars batting over .300. Schreiber leads the team with two home runs, 13 runs scored and 17 runs-batted-in.
After Tuesday’s game, the Huskers will travel to San Luis Obispo, California, to play a four-game series against Cal Poly, beginning on Thursday night.
Tuesday’s start time is set for 8 p.m. (CT).
