Nebraska is busy preparing as the top seed for this week’s Big Ten baseball tournament, but before that kicks off in Bloomington, Indiana, on Wednesday there was one final round of weekly conference awards. Freshman outfielder Mojo Hagge made the cut, earning Freshman of the Week honors in the last week of the regular season.
Hagge went 6-for-13 last week at Penn State (.462), helping the Huskers to their first Big Ten regular-season title. He hit for a double and triple against the Nittany Lions, driving in three runs with an on-base percentage of .462.
It’s been nearly a year since Nebraska last had a player earn Freshman of the Week honors. Pitcher Matt Waldron earned the award last May after throwing a complete-game shutout against Penn State.
Hagge is the fourth Husker to earn a weekly Big Ten award this season joining Ben Miller (Pitcher of the Week, April 10), Jake Hohensee (Pitcher of the Week, April 10) and Jake Meyers (Pitcher of the Week, March 10).
Nebraska faces eight-seed Purdue in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on May 24. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT and the game will be carried by the Big Ten Network.
