A solid week on the diamond, featuring wins over two in-state rivals and a series win over Maryland, propelled two Huskers to Big Ten honors this week.
Senior first basemen Ben Miller was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after hitting .600 with 12 hits, six RBIs and five runs scored over the Huskers’ five-game stretch. He was even better against nationally ranked Maryland over the weekend, going 10-for-13 at the plate (.769) with a .923 slugging percentage. Miller also made his second appearance this season on the mound, pitching three innings against Creighton where he allowed one hit, struck out four and recorded the win. This is Miller’s second career conference player-of-the-week honor.
Senior pitcher Jake Hohensee was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. He struck out a career-high eight batters in 8.1 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run in the Huskers’ series-opening 3-1 win over the Terrapins last Friday. This is Hohensee’s first such award.
Nebraska travels to Manhattan, Kansas, on Tuesday to take on Kansas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and the game will be televised by Fox College Sports.
