Nebraska’s big recruiting efforts over the weekend have already paid off as the Huskers have secured a commitment from Southern California Academy wing Denim Dawson.
Dawson is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound wing from California who decided to do a post-grad year after graduating from Orange Lutheran High School. Dawson’s athleticism, defensive prowess and motor are among the traits that have him rated as a 3-star prospect.
Dawson was among the six official visitors the Huskers hosted over the weekend. He received offers from Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, DePaul, TCU and a handful of mid-majors during his recruitment but apparently saw enough in Lincoln to pull the trigger. As part of his visit, Dawson got the chance to watch the Opening Night with Husker Hoops event and experience a football game day at Memorial Stadium.
Dawson is the third member of Nebraska’s 2022 recruiting class, joining Coffeyville Community College center Blaise Keita and Sierra Canyon guard Ramel Lloyd Jr.
Dawson’s commitment puts the Huskers one scholarship over the limit for the 2022-23 season, but that includes Trey McGowens, Derrick Walker and Lat Mayen — who will have a decision to make regarding their extra year of eligibility — and Bryce McGowens, a potential one-and-done NBA prospect.
Jacob is in his third year with Hail Varsity covering Husker athletics. He has also written extensively for SB Nation’s Bright Side of the Sun and The Creightonian. His love of basketball can best be described as an obsession and if you need to find him, he’s probably in a gym somewhere watching, coaching or playing hoops.
