Ed Morrow Sidelined Indefinitely

January 11, 2017

Tim Miles announced on Wednesday that sophomore forward Ed Morrow. Jr. will be out indefinitely because of a right foot injury.

According to Nebraska trainer R.J. Pietig, Morrow’s injury, which was confirmed with an MRI earlier this week, will not require surgery. Morrow will be reevaluated next week.

“Obviously this is disappointing for Ed,” Miles said. “I think he’s been playing the best basketball of his career, but a foot injury is a delicate one. We want to make sure he is at full health, and it was obvious on Sunday that he just needs rest and time for his foot to heal properly.”

This is the second time the 6-foot-7, 234-pound Morrow has dealt with foot problems at Nebraska as his freshman season was derailed by plantar fasciitis.

The loss is a critical blow to the Huskers after a 3-1 start in the Big Ten. Morrow started all 16 games this season and is third on the team in scoring at 10.1 points and first in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game. Morrow has three double doubles this season, the most recent in a win at Indiana to open conference play.

Second chance offense has been one of Nebraska’s biggest strengths and Morrow was a big part of that as he is first on the team in offensive rebound percentage.

Fellow sophomore frontcourt starter Michael Jacobson has already stepped up his play considerably over the last five games but will be relied upon even more. Without Morrow, freshmen Jordy Tshimanga, Isaiah Roby and Jeriah Horne will all have to step up and provide more consistent production, and junior Nick Fuller could see the floor at times as well.
