James Palmer Jr. Lands Cover of Latest Hail Varsity

Nebraska basketball's 2017-18 season didn't end where the Huskers wanted it to nor how they hoped it would, but James Palmer Jr.'s transformation into  an All-Big Ten guard remains a remarkable story.

Staff writer Derek Peterson dives into that story in the latest issue of Hail Varsity.

Palmer is a bit of a throwback in the modern age. You won't find him on social media. He's quiety publicly, but when he's around his teammates "he won't shut up" Tim Miles said. The Huskers' coach also mentioned Palmer's work ethic and knowledge of the game as key factors behind the breakout season.

Other highlights from the issue include:

  • Managing editor Brandon Vogel looks at the important questions and key players for the Huskers as they begin their first spring under Coach Scott Frost.
  • Editor Mike Babcock catches up with former Husker guard Jake Muhleisen for our "Legends of the Fall" feature, and writes about tight ends coach Sean Beckton, the assistant with the most and closest ties to Central Florida, in his back-page column.
  • Staff writer Jacob Padilla puts a cap on Nebraska's basketball season with a look at some key year-end numbers.
  • Recruiting analyst Greg Smith gets you set for spring with a look at some of prospects Nebraska hopes to get on campus in the weeks ahead.
