Nebraska Guard Nana Akenten Suspended Indefinitely

March 07, 2019

With the regular season finale looming on Sunday, the Husker bench just got shorter.

Sophomore guard Nana Akenten has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, head coach Tim Miles announced Thursday afternoon.

The wing has appeared in 28 games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds a game while serving mostly as the team’s sixth man. He made two starts against Oklahoma State and Cal State Fullerton—both wins—while regular starter Thomas Allen Jr. recovered from an illness.

Akenten has seen his minutes fluctuate in his second season and his production has severely dropped in conference play. In 17 Big Ten games, Akenten has logged an average of 11 minutes while shooting 30 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3 on a little over two attempts a game.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday when they host Iowa on Senior Day at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT on BTN. They’re assured at least one game in the Big Ten Tournament, set to begin on Wednesday, March 13.
