Nebraska’s Game at No. 19 Ohio State Postponed

January 20, 2022

Nebraska’s game at No. 19 Ohio State scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been postponed because of health and safety protocols within the Huskers’ program.

With players currently in the protocol, Nebraska is short of the conference minimum of seven available scholarship players. The schools will work with the Big Ten to reschedule the game.

After going through a month-long pause last season, the Huskers had managed to avoid COVID-19 issues this year up until this point. The women’s team’s game against Rutgers set for Thursday has been postponed because of health and safety protocols for the Huskers, and the rifle program also cancelled its weekend event because of COVD-19 issues.

Nebraska most recently faced Indiana on Monday. Trey McGowens returned for the Huskers against the Hoosiers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Trayce Jackson-Davis’ dominance as the All-Big Ten performer led Indiana to its first true road win of the season at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Coach Fred Hoiberg and the Huskers were looking forward to the week of practice and the re-match with Ohio State.

“We’ve got a great opportunity this week to have good practice time,” Hoiberg said following the loss to Indiana. “Our guys start school tomorrow, it’s their mandatory off day, but then we get three really good opportunities to practice which we haven’t had a lot because of either we didn’t get back from West Lafayette because of a flight delay or a mechanical issue and with games being right on top of each other. So we’ll get three good days of practice heading into Ohio State and hopefully be able to clean some things up.”

Nebraska’s next scheduled men’s game is Tuesday at home against No. 8 Wisconsin.
