Western Illinois Grad Transfer Kobe Webster Commits to Nebraska

March 14, 2020

Nebraska picked up its second transfer named Kobe this season as Western Illinois graduate transfer Kobe Webster announced his commitment to Nebraska on Twitter on Saturday morning.

Webster joins Wisconsin transfer Kobe King who committed to Nebraska on Feb. 26.

Webster is a 6-foot guard who averaged 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists as a three-year starter at Western Illinois in the Summit League. This season, he led the Leathernecks with 17.7 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.7% from the field, 33.3% from 3 and 78.1% from the free-throw line.

As a sophomore, he put up 17.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 42.9% from the field, 41.3% from 3 and 70.6% from the line. He put up big numbers as a freshman as well at 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on 43.1-36.6-78.1 shooting splits. Webster started all 85 games of his career was Western Illinois.

Webster’s commitment puts Nebraska over the scholarship limit by one. However, the futures of Dachon Burke Jr. and Cam Mack at Nebraska are still up in the air. Coach Fred Hoiberg suspended them ahead of Nebraska’s regular season finale at Minnesota for missing curfew.

Burke released a note on Twitter saying he would not travel with the team to the Big Ten Tournament and would focus on working towards graduation.

Mack shared on social media Thursday that he was declaring for the NBA Draft but planned to maintain his collegiate eligibility throughout the process.

In addition to Webster and King, Nebraska is also set to add junior college transfers Teddy Allen and Lat Mayen for the 2020-21 season while sit-out transfers Shamiel Stevenson, Derrick Walker and Dalano Banton will be eligible.

The Huskers finished 7-25 during Hoiberg’s first season and ended the year with a 17-game losing streak.
