On Tuesday, 3-star 2020 QB Logan Smothers made the 13-hour drive from Athens, Alabama, to Lincoln so that he and his dad could check out Nebraska for an unofficial visit. The dual threat signal-caller got the full tour during his time in Lincoln. He and his father could not have been happier with how the visit went.
“I loved it. It was very exciting getting to soak all that in," Smothers said. "Overall, I’m still kind of overwhelmed by it all but it was amazing. I didn’t really know what to expect going into it but I had some high expectations. Still, they were blown away.”

After throwing in front of quarterback Mario Verduzco last month, Smothers, who is also a track star, told me that he had high interest in Nebraska. On Wednesday, the quarterback got to spend the bulk of his time with Verduzco.
“I talked to coach Verdu, the quarterback coach, and Coach [Scott] Frost but I spent the most time with Coach Verdu. We had one-on-ones with both of them. [Verduzco's] a good guy, easy to talk to and we had good talks. I liked him a lot. I like what he’s doing at Nebraska. He’s such a great dude to talk to and a great guy.”
On his talks with Frost, Smothers says that the head coach was very laid back and easy to talk to while being straightforward. The signal-caller was excited to talk with Frost but he got to do a lot while on Nebraska’s campus.
“First, we toured the campus and got to see some dorms, then we went to the stadium and locker room. I got to see those and put on some uniforms, go to the field and take some pictures," Smothers said. "We saw the performance lab and the strength and conditioning coach, [Zach] Duval, talked to us about the stuff he does. That was pretty amazing with everything he does. After that is when we sat one-on-one with Coach Verdu then Coach Frost.”
In the immediate future, Smothers plans to go to Auburn this Friday, then Mississippi State on Saturday before heading to Tuscaloosa next Tuesday. Since schools jump on quarterbacks early and there will be no shortage of QBs ready to play for Frost and Verduzco, I asked Smothers how the visit impacted his decision timeline.
“Going into today, I wasn’t sure," he said. "After today though, it will be really hard to wait. I’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.”
