Nebraska picked up a win on Saturday over South Alabama, 35-21. The season opening game did not feature any official visitors but there were still a number of targets on hand to witness the Huskers start their season off with a victory. One of those targets is 2021 3-star (HV Rating: 84.5) linebacker target Collin Oliver. The junior to be already holds a handful of scholarship offers.
I caught up with the defender while he was on his way back home to Oklahoma post-game. I got his thoughts on the overall visit, his relationship with the coaching staff and his plans to return to Lincoln.
Here is the full question-and-answer:
What did you think of the visit overall?
“Oh god, it was amazing. I may be biased since it was a game visit but there hasn’t been one thing down there that I don’t like. The atmosphere is one of a kind as well. I enjoyed myself.”
Who came with you? What were their favorite parts?
“My mother and father came with me. They enjoyed the atmosphere and the love that the coaches showed us.”
Which coaches have you talked to the most and how would you describe the relationship?
“[Graduate Assistant] Coach Colby Ellis and [running backs coach] Coach [Ryan] Held have been the two I’ve talked to a lot. Also, the Director of Player Personnel Sean Dillon. They are like a family. They talk to me like I’ve been in Nebraska my whole life, so it’s cool.”
Which position are they talking to you about at this time?
“They are talking about moving me between inside linebacker and outside linebacker. It depends on packages and situations.”
What do you think about that? Is that what you play in high school?
“I’d enjoy a lot to be honest. All I care about on that subject is that I’m somewhere on the defense where I can move around and that’s what they are recruiting me for.”
What other schools are you looking into right now?
“Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Tulsa, North Texas and SMU.”
What are the things you are most looking for in a school?
“Oh, it has to be the family attitude. You need to know that they treat you like you are one of their players off the gate. Also, great academics and academic facilities. I need to do great in school to succeed on and off the field in my later years. So that’s most important.”
Do you plan on coming back to Lincoln for another game this season and if so when?
“I have to come back this year, that place is amazing. It would either be that big Ohio State game or another huge game. I’ll have to check back on their schedule though.”
