Nebraska had unofficial visitors in town last Wednesday for practice. One of those visitors was 2021 linebacker Seth Malcom from Tabor, Iowa. The four-sport star was in town with his family and the trip was a big one since he picked up an offer from Nebraska while in Lincoln.

The junior-to-be already held an offer from Iowa State. I caught up with him Friday evening to get his thoughts on Nebraska, his relationship with the coaches and what it’s like representing his 8-man football team.
Here is the full Q&A:
What were your overall thoughts on the visit to Nebraska?
“My visit to Nebraska was awesome. From watching the live practice, meeting the coaching staff and touring the facilities, it was a great day.”
What were your thoughts when you picked up the offer? How did it happen?
“My family and I had talked with [inside linebackers] Coach [Barrett] Ruud and he said I was a scholarship type player and liked what he saw in watching me on film. We all then met with [defensive coordinator] Coach [Erik] Chinander and he spoke about liking what he saw in me as well and said, “With that being said, we’d like to offer you a scholarship here at Nebraska.” I was excited knowing that a small school, 8-man player can have the opportunity to play at that level.”
What’s it like representing your 8-man squad and helping them get recognition as your recruitment takes off?
“Fremont Mills has had a solid program since 2010. I feel honored representing my school and getting our team recognized. The recruiting process is exciting to say the least. But my goals are what is best for our team and making a run at the state championship.”
How would you describe your relationship with Ruud and Chinander?
“Both Coach Ruud and Coach Chinander are very easy to talk to. I am usually not a big talkative guy, but they made it easy to answer any questions I had.”
Do you guys plan to come back for a game in the fall?
“I am planning on coming back for the spring game and some home games as well.”
What are some things you most looking for in a school?
“The things I am looking for in a school are academics, how the coaching staff treats their players, facilities and travel distance from home.”
