2021 OL Bryson Estes Gets Offer and Runza on Memorable Weekend

October 06, 2019

Nebraska is continuing to work the South for future Huskers. One southern player that was in town this weekend has an interesting connection to the team. Class of 2021 center Bryson Estes‍ from McDonough, Georgia, was in Lincoln with his dad and coach for Nebraska’s 13-10 win over Northwestern.

The Eagle’s Landing Christian standout has one teammate (defensive tackle Marquis Black) who took an official visit to Lincoln last week. He has another teammate (wide receiver Justin Robinson) who was on an official visit this weekend. The weekend trip to Lincoln was even more special because Estes picked up an offer from the Huskers.

“I went into the indoor area where they have all the recruits come to hang out,” Estes told Hail Varsity. “It was [offensive line coach] Greg Austin that offered me. He came up and talked to me with [running backs coach] Ryan Held. Greg Austin said they really like me and want to offer me. They told me they liked my film. It all happened in the indoor area.”

Estes said that he was blown away by the offer from Nebraska tand that he didn’t expect it. The offer may have caught him by surprise but what he found at Nebraska was not a surprise. The lineman said that his teammates have spoken highly of Nebraska which had him excited to make the trip.

The current facilities at Nebraska, the atmosphere and his feelings about the coaching staff were some of this highlights of the trip but there was one thing that Estes will remember above everything.

“So, I know they are getting a whole new multi-million dollar building,” he said. “I thought that was really cool. They are getting a new weight room and all sorts of stuff they told me. During the game, I had something that I’m not even sure what it’s called. It’s filled with cabbage and meat. A Runza.

“I got one of those and it was so good. One of the coaches told me [to] get one those and it was so good. It was either Coach Austin or Coach Held that told me to try it. I had no idea what they were and I tried it and thought ‘dang this is good’.

Estes’ dad enjoyed the trip too. He was impressed with the facilities and the coaching staff. The atmosphere and sell-out streak were something that all three of them commented on. Right now, the center counts his run blocking as the big strength of his game. They don’t pass a lot at his high school so he get plenty of run block work.

While he didn’t get to spend much time with Coach Scott Frost, the Georgia native knows exactly what he’s looking for in a school.

“A winning program is always good,” Estes said. “A staff that can get me better to try to go to the NFL. Coach Frost is a really good coach so I have to have a really good coach.”
