Nebraska was able to host several priority targets for the 2021 recruiting class for the matchup with Northern Illinois. Of all the players in attendance, one in particular stood out: California quarterback Peter Costelli. He made a return trip to Lincoln with his family to witness the Huskers’ big win over Northern Illinois.
Costelli and his family went on a big tour of schools over the summer—including Nebraska—to get a feel for the schools he is considering. He is one of a handful of quarterbacks in 2021 that holds an offer from the Huskers.

I caught up with Costelli on Sunday morning after he finished touring Nebraska’s campus. We discussed the Huskers’ offense, his relationship with quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco and more.
Here is the full Q&A:
How was the tour of campus?
“It was good. It was really nice. We got to tour the campus and see where the dorms were. It’s good.”
What were the differences between taking the trip in the summer and this weekend?
“This time we got to come to a game. We really wanted to check out the environment. Nebraska is sold out every game since the 60s. It was an awesome environment to be in.”
Who came with you and what did they think about the trip?
“Both of my parents came with me on the trip. They thought it was awesome too. They’ve been to Big Ten games before and they thought it was awesome.”
Great energy in Lincoln tonight…..Congrats Huskers on the win! GBR! https://t.co/3vGghuWGYQ

Did you get chance to meet with the coaches while here?
“I got to talk to Coach Verduzco and say hi to Coach Frost.”
What was the conversation like with Verduzco?
“It was basically catching up from last time. We talked just seeing how everything is going. I told how I enjoyed the game too.”
How is your season starting off?
“We are doing really good. We are 4-0 right now. I’m throwing it pretty well. Our offense is starting to click now so we are getting a lot better.”
What did you think about the Huskers offense on Saturday?
“I thought it looked pretty good. Adrian [Martinez] played a pretty good game. The throwing was really good. They ran the ball well too.”
Have you visited any other schools for games this season?
“Nebraska was my first one.”
What were some of the most memorable things about the trip this weekend?
“Definitely the game. Just seeing how the fans were and stuff was a lot of fun.”
