2023 EDGE Ashley Williams Jr. Commits to Nebraska

July 10, 2022

Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class just got bigger on Sunday with the commitment of EDGE Ashley Williams Jr. He is the Huskers’ 14th commitment of the 2023 class.

Williams, a 3-star from Zachary, Louisiana, took an official visit to Nebraska over the June 3 weekend. His player host during the visit was defensive back Quinton Newsome, but he also had an opportunity to spend time with EDGE Caleb Tannor and Nebraska commit Omarion Miller.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound EDGE also took an official visit to Minnesota the weekend after his visit to Nebraska. Despite holding 22 total offers—including Auburn, Colorado and Florida State—those were the only two official visits that Williams took. As a result, it’s clear that Williams’ decision was between Huskers and the Gophers and Nebraska won out in the end.

As a junior, Williams players multiple roles for Zachary High School. Per 247Sports, he played as both a traditional hand-on-the-ground defensive end and as a standing edge. Williams helped Zachary to an undefeated season in 2021 and to a Louisiana 5A state championship. He tallied 89 tackles, including 22 tackles for loss and 14 sacks.
