2023 Texas Linebacker Dylan Rogers Commits to Nebraska

July 05, 2022

We knew Nebraska was the frontrunner for 2023 Texas linebacker Dylan Rogers’ commitment. He said as much following his official visit a couple of weeks ago.

Now Rogers has made it official.

Nebraska was one of six contenders for the Cypress (Texas) Cy Woods linebacker. He said he was interested in Colorado, Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas and Nebraska. The Huskers, as we now know, ultimately won him over.

“I’m looking for a school that feels like a second home, honestly,” Rogers said following his visit to Nebraska. “Somewhere I feel the vibe with the coaches and I want to feel wanted too. I don’t want to go somewhere that I’m just tolerated but where I’m wanted. I want to feel that good vibe with the coaches and the players throughout the organization.”

Rogers—who stands at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds—originally thought he might wait until early fall to make a commitment decision, but he left the door open to make a decision sooner and ultimately bumped the timeline up.

He is now Nebraska’s 13th commitment for the 2023 recruiting class and the Huskers’ second of the day. Omarion Miller, a 4-star wide receiver, committed earlier on Tuesday.

What are the Huskers getting in Rogers as a player? First, he’s a multi-sport athlete. Per 247Sports, he throws shot put and has eclipsed the 50 feet mark at least five times during his junior season this past spring. He also qualified for the Texas Class 6A Region II meet, recording a 53-5 PR.

As for football, Rogers put together back-to-back impressive seasons for the Cypress Woods defense as a sophomore and junior. Over the two seasons, he tallied 137 tackles with 11 tackles for a loss. He also added four interceptions and five sacks. He was named the Texas District 16-6A unanimous first-team selection following his junior season. It’s worth noting he was also a Texas District 16-6A first-team selection following his sophomore season as well.

It is expected that Rogers will move to the middle of the field at Nebraska.
