The athletic linebacker with great length (6-5, 217) saw his recruitment take off as his senior film made the rounds to coaches around the country. He was committed to Tennessee when he visited Lincoln for his official the first weekend of the offseason. The visit to Lincoln was a game-changer for Butler and he left the Vols class shortly after returning home.
The Huskers have made adding edge rushers a priority in the 2020 class. They have another fast-rising prospect who returned to the football field this year for the first time since eighth grade. Butler’s motor, bend and strength off the edge make him an intriguing prospect to develop in defensive coordinator Erik Chinander’s defense. With his frame, Butler could easily hold another 30-plus pounds.
Butler held around a dozen scholarship offers. They most notably included TCU, Tennessee, Maryland and Illinois. He is the 19th known commitment for the class of 2020. Butler is the eight commitment of the last nine to play on the defensive side of the football. JUCO WR Omar Manning is the lone exception.
Butler is scheduled to sign this week and enroll in the summer.
