Now that Michigan State week is here, we can start focusing on the huge recruiting weekend that Nebraska has been putting together.
Perhaps the biggest target that will be in Lincoln this Saturday is 4-star (HV Rating: 92.6) defensive end Ty Robinson from Gilbert, Arizona. Due to the 11 a.m. kickoff, Robinson will have to fly early Saturday morning because he has a playoff game on Friday night. Robinson has been to Lincoln a couple times already, including the spring game back in April.
On Monday, I was able to catch up with him to see how his season is going, the official visits he has taken and what he’s most looking forward to on the trip to Lincoln.
Here is the full Q&A from our interview.
How is your season going?
“It’s going pretty good, we just made the semi-finals for the third year in a row. That’s school history for us.”
Where are you playing on the line?
“I’m mainly just playing defensive tackle but they will kick me out to defensive end too.”
Which schools have you taken official vists to?
“I took one to USC and it really set the standard for what an official visit would be like. I had great opportunities and they offer great things especially with their academic side of things. I also took a visit to Oregon last weekend. That really showed what they had to offer in their program and how they are developing their guys over there with what they can be in the next few years.”
What major are you looking at?
“Something like a biology major or somewhere along the lines or that.”
How would you describe communication with Huskers during season?
“It’s been pretty strong. I talk to Coach [Mike] Dawson almost every week. Sometimes even coach Frost when he’s not busy. Coach [Erik] Chinander as well. There are a whole bunch of other coaches that shoot me a text here or there, like Coach [Barrett] Ruud and Coach [Ryan] Held.”
What are you most looking forward to on the visit?
“I’m excited to see what a full stadium looks like. I got a pretty good idea of it during the spring game but I’m excited to see what a true competition looks like. Just to see how the guys interact with each other and how they are changing that culture there. You can already see if from the beginning of the season until now, it’s been a culture shock there.”
Do you have a decision timeline, will you sign in December or wait?
“December. I’m not an early enrollee, though.”
