4-Star JUCO LB Lakia Henry Already Has a Return to Lincoln Scheduled

May 19, 2018

Earlier in the week, I reported that 4-star JUCO inside lineback Lakia Henry‍ from Dodge City Community College in Kansas would be making a trip to Lincoln this week. He made that trip on Friday. It was a very important unofficial visit for one of the top players in the junior college ranks. I caught up with him to see how the trip went for him.

“It was nice," Henry said.  “It was a really nice visit, I enjoyed myself. It was just me and my momma. She liked it too. She liked the facilities and the coaches. She really liked it, too.”

Henry and his mom got in this morning about 10 am and didn’t leave until almost 5pm, so they got to have a full day with the Nebraska staff. He told me that they got to see the locker room, the stadium, the football offices and looked in the dorms a little bit. One thing that Henry spent a lot of time on with the staff with was how he fit into their 3-4 scheme.

“I thought a lot of that," Henry said. "At first, I considered myself as a 4-3 middle backer, but they see me more as an outside linebacker-type athlete. I’m still going to be playing inside within the scheme having two inside backers. The way it’s set up it's more of an outside linebacker to me instead of a true inside linebacker."

Nebraska has certainly made Henry a top priority and he told me that he hung out with Barrett Ruud the most today along with defensive coordinator Erik Chinander. Scott Frost and Ryan Held have also been active in his recruitment. Up next, Henry plans to visit Ole Miss tomorrow and that will be his final trip before his season.

With Tennessee, Nebraska and Ole Miss being his only three trips before the start of the season, the Huskers have put themselves squarely in the mix for the defender. He still wants to make a decision before the start of his season but there is a date set for Henry’s return trip to Lincoln for an official visit.

“September 8 is (the date) we decided, for the Colorado game.”
