Nebraska has a big need for linebackers this recruiting cycle. The Huskers need to land a couple of impact outside linebackers who can rush the passer. Elite outside linebackers can be the difference in having a good or great 3-4 defense. There is a player that fits that description who has his official visit scheduled for the fall: 4-star (HV Rating: 92.9) outside linebacker Kaden Johnson.
Johnson told Hail Varsity on Sunday night that he's set his official visit to Nebraska. Johnson is scheduled to attend the Ohio State game on Sept. 28.
Johnson visited Lincoln back in March for a spring practice. He was with a large group with Tyrone Carter Elite Training Schools. The school's run by former Minnesota and NFL star Tyrone Carter. When we spoke after that visit there were things that stood out to him about Nebraska.
“Probably talking with Coach [Scott] Frost and watching the practice,” he said at the time. “It was amazing. I enjoyed the up-tempo practice. It is very different from other schools for sure.”
The Minnehaha Academy star is the No. 2 Greg’s Guy. He has steadily risen up the list as we get deeper into the process.
From my previous Greg’s Guys update:
“The playmaking defender plays attends Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis. Johnson was part of a large group that took in a Huskers practice this spring and he came away wanting to get back around the program with his family. Johnson took an official visit to Wisconsin in June but is not close to making a decision. Nebraska is battling Wisconsin and Minnesota for him but Johnson will visit Nebraska for an official visit.“
The battle for Johnson’s signature is trending toward a Big Ten battle. Minnesota is the home state school and won’t want to lose a top talent to a division rival. Wisconsin has already beat out Nebraska for one linebacker this cycle (Malik Reed) so the Huskers would love to strike back on the trail.
The Ohio State game added another big name to the docket. It is shaping up to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the young Frost Era. Here’s a look at the prospects Hail Varsity has confirmed for that weekend.
- 4-star OT commit Turner Corcoran
- 3-star QB commit Logan Smothers
- 4-star LB Alabama commit Jackson Bratton
- 4-star LB Kaden Johnson
- 3-star DB Kendrick Simpkins
- 3-star DB Javar Strong
