This week, sources have indicated that quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco is making his way through Texas to evaluate quarterbacks for the class of 2021. The Huskers have the great luxury of being able to really focus on the 2021 group since they have their man for 2020, Logan Smothers.
Sources told Hail Varsity that Verduzco stopped through Guyer High School on Thursday to see quarterback Eli Stowers. Like many of the players the Huskers recruit, he also participates in track.

The signal-caller from Denton, Texas, is the least talked about of all the quarterbacks Verduzco visited this week and is the only one without an offer from the Huskers yet. That doesn’t mean that is already heavily recruited. He currently holds double-digit offers including Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Oregon.
Stowers is a very impressive athlete physically. Standing at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds, his size is more than an enough for an offense especially a spread attack. He is very fast and moves well especially given his size. As a passer, he is still developing. Seeing how Stowers progresses in the pocket with his footwork and throwing motion over the next couple of seasons will be key.
In the 2018 season, Stowers threw for 1,571 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was dangerous as a runner as well, running for 1,119 yards and nine touchdowns.
Right now, it appears like Stowers recruitment is wide open. How much he develops as a passer will likely determine if he reaches his enormous potential. I’d assume Coach Scott Frost and Verduzco will keep tabs on him moving forward as they continue setting the Huskers’ 2021 quarterback board.

As he got older and had to hang up his cleats and sneakers, he realized his passion for sports went beyond just watching and attending games. He has covered many events from the Rose Bowl to championship boxing matches. If he’s not talking sports, he’s hovering over his grill. He is married to an amazing woman, Kim, and they have a dog that barks when Greg yells at the TV during games.
