Nebraska will hold its annual Red-White Spring Game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The total number of visitors that will be on hand is huge when you factor in 2019 signees, a 2019 official visitor, 2020 prospects, 2021 prospects and 2022 prospects. A number of prospects attending the spring game have visited Lincoln before and some have even been in town this spring.
Nebraska 2020 quarterback commit Logan Smothers will be back in Lincoln for the first time since he committed to the team back in July. There will be plenty of players for him to help the coaches recruit as 13 prospects with Nebraska offers will be in attendance. That group is headlined by 4-star OT Turner Corcoran who is making his 10th visit to Lincoln since Coach Scott Frost took over the program.
Corcoran isn’t the only offensive lineman for the 2020 class who will be on hand. Alex Conn, a 3-star tackle, will also be at the game. Things have picked up quite a bit between Nebraska and Conn who could quietly be on commit watch too. A pair of wide receivers, Logan Loya and Tommy Christakos, are visiting and both are hoping to get a better feel for the program in person. This will also be a huge visit for Omaha Burke pass catcher Xavier Watts. He is fresh off a visit to Notre Dame. The Irish are thought to be one of the leaders for Watts along with Nebraska and Minnesota.
On the defensive side of the football, there are a number of intriguing players on the docket for the class of 2020. There haven’t been many 2020 defensive backs that have emerged as clear targets but Chris Townsel out of Florida will make the trip to Lincoln. Jamar Sekona, a 4-star defensive tackle, is another dark horse candidate to be ‘N’ this weekend. The staff loves him and he’s a terrific prospect. Defensive end Blaise Gunnerson will make his second trip to Lincoln this spring. Nebraska would love to steal him out of Iowa like they did Mosai Newsom in last class.
Three 2021 prospects with offers will be back on campus and the Huskers sit in a good early position with all of them. Offensive tackle Teddy Prochazka from Elkhorn (Neb.) South could end up being a national recruit. Linebackers Randolph Kpai and Seth Malcom are both returning after great visits earlier this spring.
Stay tuned to Hail Varsity for reaction throughout the weekend from the visitors
