Nebraska gained a third 2024 commitment in a day with an announcement from a Kansas defensive back.
Callen Barta, a two-way player at Seaman High in Topeka, Kansas, tweeted his commitment to Nebraska on Sunday. The 3-star safety committed upon a scholarship offer during his official visit this weekend.

Barta is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety and receiver at Seaman and comes with immense athleticism. Nebraska’s coaching staff sees him as a cornerback after he camped in Lincoln the week before. Coaches were so impressed with him during the weekend and invited him back.
In his last two high school seasons, Barta has made 68 tackles, four deflections and seven interceptions in 18 games. As a receiver he tallied 406 yards and three touchdowns on 41 catches.
Nebraska is the first FBS, even Division I school, to offer Barta. He only previously received an offer from Missouri Southern State. He’s garnered attention from Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Colorado State and North Dakota State but not yet received offers.
Barta’s commitment marks No. 12 in Nebraska’s 2024 class. Offensive lineman Jake Peters and dynamic defender Braylen Prude also committed to Nebraska earlier Sunday after visiting Lincoln. Counting Prude, Barta is the third defensive back in the class so far along with 4-star Mario Buford.
