Beason “Sets the Tone” as Huskers’ First 2019 Commit

April 17, 2017

He spent time on the sidelines laughing with Daniels and
other Nebraska prospects. He said they were all “enjoying ourselves,”
which was made even sweeter for Beason as a new commit. Now that he’s
verbally committed, Beason has his eyes set on key players he’d like to
join him at Nebraska, like quarterback Grant Gunnell (“I tell him that [he’ll play for Nebraska] every day.”).

Beason spoke with Hail Varsity about what sold him on Nebraska, his plans as the Huskers’ first 2019 commitment and more.

Q: How did the weekend go?

MB: The whole weekend went great. I could really see myself at Nebraska.

Q: What sold you on Nebraska?

MB: Well, first the fans. They made me feel like I was very important to the program and the coaches added on by treating me like family. Coach Riley and Coach Williams are great men. When I go there, I feel like I can make a big impact.

Q: What did the coaches tell you about the Huskers?

MB: They said that no matter what you do, they would always treat you like family. In Dallas, we have the Dallas Cowboys. We have all of these sports teams but in Nebraska, it’s just Nebraska. They’ll always love you forever.

Q: Riley has called Nebraska “America’s team.” Do you see it that way?

MB: I see it in the future because they’re bringing in great talent and they have the greatest fans in the world. They have the greatest coaches, so they could be America’s team.

Q: What does it mean to you to be the first commitment of the 2019 class for Nebraska?

MB: I mean, it sets the tone for 2019 and I have the edge up on other people because I already know where I’m going.

Q: Anyone you’d like to help peer recruit to play for the Huskers?

MB: Of course my two teammates and my little cousin. Brian Williams, he’s a sophomore. Calvin Avery, he’s 2018. My little cousin is 2020 and he’s on the rise. I also have a quarterback from St. Pius [Texas] Grant Gunnell and then a running back, so yeah. I have my eye on some talent.

Q: Is it easier to go away from home if you know your future teammates?

MB: It’s definitely easier because you have built a relationship with them and you feel comfortable around them. They’re like family so it’s home away from home.

Q: What is unique about you as a player?

MB: Electricity and my swagger, like the way I play and the way I talk and the way I compete.

Q: What do you want fans to know about you?

MB: I’m a competitor, I love the fans and I love football.
