Nebraska’s first announced commitment of the 2023 recruiting class will not make it to signing day.
Pierce tight end Benjamin Brahmer will flip his commitment from Nebraska to Iowa State, as reported on Tuesday morning. Former head coach Scott Frost recruited Brahmer and secured his commitment on April 2, 2021.
Brahmer comes off an all-time performance in the Class C1 title game, finishing with 226 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
New Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule and his staff made Brahmer a priority during the transition and tried to maintain the homegrown Huskers’ commitment this week. In the end, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell and his staff stayed consistent to flip Brahmer during Nebraska’s coaching change and the new staff’s late efforts weren’t enough.
Brahmer is the latest decommit from Nebraska, joining Omarion Miller, Malachi Coleman and Arnold Barnes. Nebraska is now ranked No. 62 among recruiting classes with 11 hard commits.
