In just a few weeks spring football will be here. We are still in the dead period but the activity has picked up some for Nebraska. There have been several new offers that have gone out this week. It appears some deeper evalauations have resulted in the Huskers finding new players to target for 2021 and beyond. The team is also gearing up for its Junior Day on March 14, which will introduce a lot of new prospects to the coaching staff.
Let’s get to the Recon.

The Recon:
>> There is a recruiting staff change note to pass along. Nebraska’s on-campus recruiting director Jess Stinger has moved on. Stinger is now the Director of Recruiting at Colorado State. She was the first person to hold that role at Nebraska but that is a common position around the country. I’d look for the Huskers to fill the role in time for spring practice.
>> The focus on special teams continued on Thursday as IMG Academy punter Sami Khawja committed to walk on. Since about the midpoint of last season the team has been locked in on finding special teams help. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if there was still more movement to come in new analyst Jonathan Rutledge’s room. It will be interesting to see what the group looks like when spring practice starts next month and again after spring ball ends.
>> As noted in the first Greg’s Guys list for the 2021 class, Florida linebacker Terrence Lewis is the only player on the list who has yet to visit Nebraska. The 5-star defender may change that soon. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him make his way to Lincoln for a practice in March perhaps with other Florida targets. Getting Lewis to campus this spring or summer is a must if the Huskers want to make a move in his recruitment.
>> So far, the June 12 weekend is shaping up to be a big one for the Huskers. A few weeks ago, linebacker Chris Paul confirmed that he will take his official visit that weekend. Bellevue West wide receiver Keagan Johnson announced this week that he will take his official visit that weekend. That weekend falls between the two Friday Night Lights camps so that stretch of time will be busy for the Huskers.
With Paul and Johnson as the first two confirmed visitors maybe that gives an indication of the summer strategy. We could see the Huskers host important visitors that they believe will commit before the season starts. That would be a sound strategy especially if the team can host several of the targets they have already had on campus over the last two years. These two will not be the only official visitors we see before the season in a huge recruiting period for Nebraska.
