Checking in on Nebraska’s Potential Flip Targets

November 07, 2018

Now that we are into the month of November, we are starting to see some players reevaluate their options and decommit. In the late stages of the season, we will also see more prospects that are committed and want to still take some trips just to be sure they’ve made the right decision.

Let’s talk about some of those players that could be potential flip targets for Nebraska in the class of 2019.

DE/OLB Brandon Mack‍

Brandon Mack is a 3-star prospect from Alabama who is currently committed to Pitt. During his junior season, he suffered a knee injury that slowed down his recruitment but he put together a healthy senior campaign where he was a terror off the edge. Mack has shown some interest in evaluating his options and the Huskers would love to host him for a visit.

DB Brandon Turnage

Turnage is a very intriguing 4-star defensive back from Mississippi. He has been part of the Alabama class since last December and he is a good player. However, there is a sense that he may need to explore his options if Nick Saban recruits over him with some highly-rated players they are in on right now. Turnage is scheduled to visit Lincoln for the Michigan State game.

OL Jeremy James

After Ole Miss offensive line commit Jeremy James visited Lincoln for the game against Purdue, he told Hail Varsity that he was considering his options. James really enjoyed the trip and even talked about how he liked that it was a little chillier in Nebraska. Things have been quiet with him lately but the Huskers are still working on him behind the scenes.

LB/S Aaron Beasley

The 3-star safety/linebacker has been committed to Tennessee since June. However, he has kept his options open including an official visit to check out the Florida Gators. He took an official visit to Lincoln for the Purdue game along with James. Whether or not Nebraska can flip Beasley will likely depend on how much he likes the idea of being recruiting by Barrett Ruud as a linebacker. Every other school likes him at safety.

LB Owen Pappoe

This is one recruitment that just can’t be let go until he sends in a letter of intent. Pappoe, the 5-star linebacker, is committed to Auburn. However, he has stated that he will take a couple official visits. He took one to Tennessee recently and will likely take one more. Can his teammate — and future Husker — Ronald Thompkins convince him to check out Lincoln officially? Nebraska also has two other former teammates of Pappoe’s on the team in Mo Barry and Breon Dixon. Keep in mind that before Pappoe chose Auburn, Nebraska was in his top three.

Is this one a longshot? Yes. Nebraska can still make things interesting if they can get him on campus.
