Q: Why did you decide to walk on at Nebraska?
CB: Coach [Kenny] Wilhite called me a couple of days ago and offered me the spot. He said, “If this is something you want to do, take it because this is your opportunity.” I talked about it with my parents and I decided it was something I wanted to do. No looking back.
Q: What do you think about Keith Williams and the wide receivers at Nebraska?
CB: They have a lot of wide receiver recruits coming so obviously there’s a reason for that. I went down to a couple of camps this summer with Coach [Williams] and you could easily tell he knows what he’s talking about. He’s also a fun guy and high-energy.
Q: What were you looking for from a school?
CB: I had places like UNK, Augustana and Washburn but when I was looking for a school, I was looking for a school for academic reasons. Nebraska fit that. My dream is to get admitted to UNMC. I’d like to do something in pediatrics.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a part of this walk-on class?
CB: I’ve heard a lot about this class restoring the walk-on tradition. I just want to prove those people right. We can be something special, I think. It’s exciting. I’ve talked to some of the guys and they’re equally excited. It’s going to be a good time.
Q: And what does it mean to you to play for Nebraska?
CB: Ever since I was in kindergarten, it has been my dream to play college football. Even just suiting up and standing on the sidelines in front of 90,000+ people would just be a dream come true.
Q: What would you like Nebraska fans to know about you?
CB: I’m willing to work as hard as I can for the team. I want to even just get one play in, just to see what would happen.
Q: Knowing Nebraska takes its walk-on program seriously, does that make you excited about your potential with the Huskers?
CB: There was actually a walk-on when I was a freshman that was a senior that walked on at Nebraska and he got to play in a couple of spring games. Just knowing someone that I know did this and it’s possible is pretty exciting.
Q: Your numbers were impressive your senior year. What do you credit that to?
CB: I had a good quarterback and good coach. A lot of my routes that I ran were set up by good play calling.
Q: OK, non-football related question… You wore a turtleneck to prom?
CB: I did. My friend and I had a conversation about sticking out at prom. We were both on the court so we wanted to make our appearance known. Someone said something about a turtleneck and I said, “I’ll do it.”
