Nebraska defeated Northern Illinois, 44-8, under the lights of Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Huskers took full advantage of the late start time to get as many recruits on campus, which included six official visitors. There was also several 2020 and 2021 targets on the sidelines too.
One of those prospects was 2021 lineman Carson Petlon.

The Iowa native also has a wrestling background which is emerging as a common trait in the linemen that the Huskers like. He is another 2021 prospect that made a return trip to Lincoln this weekend. Nebraska has done a good job of getting 2021 players on campus many times.
Petlon is on the radar of Nebraska, Iowa and Iowa State as a prospect who is close to getting an offer. I caught up with Pelton to get his thoughts on the visit, his relationship with the staff and more.
Here is the full Q&A:
What did you think of the trip to Nebraska?
“It’s always a great time every time I get to meet with the coaches. Even the players they have are amazing people. The five hour drive is well worth it.”
What did you get to do while in Lincoln?
“Before the game I met with some coaches and ate dinner. Then after that I met some of the players in the locker room. Then I talked more with the O-line Coach Greg Austin and Coach [Erik] Chinander and [Director of Player Personnel] Sean Dillon.”
How is your relationship with those coaches?
“Me and Coach Dillon talk over Twitter quite a bit. Coach Austin wants to talk more and set up a call every week so we can strengthen our relationship.”
Who came with you on the trip and what did they think?
“My dad and brother came with me this time since they have not seen anything yet. They loved it. They thought the fans were crazy good and the facilities and coaches were amazing.”
What other schools are also showing interest in you right now?
“Well, right now I’m trying to set up a visit with Iowa, Iowa State and SDSU. I recently went to Indiana for a game day visit.”
What are some things you are most looking for in a school?
“The coaching staff relationship and the academic side of the school.”
What were the highlights of the trip for you?
“Meeting all the coaches again that I haven’t seen for a while.”
