Over the weekend, Nebraska hosted its first spring official visitor. They started things off in a big way by hosting 4-star defensive tackle (HV Rating: 90.3) Nash Hutmacher in Lincoln. The Chamberlain, South Dakota, native came down with his family. It was an important visit not just because Hutmacher is one of Nebraska’s top defensive targets for 2020 but he also has an official visit planned to Wisconsin this June.

I caught up with Hutmacher to get his thoughts on his official visit, the direction of the program under Coach Scott Frost and got an updated decision timeline.
Here is the full Q&A:
What were your overall thoughts on an official visit to Nebraska?
“Today and yesterday, the whole visit was great. I had a lot of fun. It was to good to get around the coaches, defensive line Coach T [Tony Tuioti] and get to hang out with the players and be one of the guys.”
What has your relationship been like with Tuioti since he took over the job?
“We have been building that relationship. Right away it was just me asking some questions about him and his background, where he’s been. We talked about a lot of stuff. I talked to him on the phone when he first got here. Coming down and meeting him in person, talking to him just solidified what I got from him on the phone. He feels like a really good guy. I was glad I got to get to know him this weekend.”
You’ve been here a few times since Scott Frost took over, how have you seen the team or culture change in that time?
“Every time I come here, I see how Coach Frost wants to turn the culture around. They are getting closer and closer to what he wants to do with everything. It’s great to see everything building up. It’s cool to watch.”
Who was your player host for the weekend?
“Friday night, I went out with Tate Wildeman. Then yesterday [Saturday] I was with Garrett Nelson.”
How was it hanging out with them?
“Oh, it was great. Especially Garrett. I’ve known Garret since I went to some games last year and I met him there. He’s always followed along with everything I’ve done so I know him. It was a lot of fun hanging out with him. We both also have a wrestling background too. We had a lot to talk about so it was good.”
You are big into your strength training so what did you think of the Coach [Dave] Ellis and Coach [Zach] Duval presentations?
“You know, I’m always in the weight room and I like strength conditioning so I really liked talking with Ellis and coach Duval. That was good. To have them tell me a lot of stuff they do and maybe tweak some of the stuff I do already so I can do it better was great.”
Do you still want to make a college decision before your senior season?
“Yes, that’s still the plan hopefully. Obviously, if I’m not sure at that time I won’t decide. That’s kind of what I wanted to do so I can enjoy my whole senior season and senior year.”
As you get to the end of deciding, what do you definitely want to have in your future school?
“I want to have good people around me all the time. I want to also fit in with the culture. Also, the opportunity for me to succeed will play a part in it too. I want to succeed wherever I am.”
