Nebraska gained a quarterback on Sunday.
Former Georgia Tech signal caller Jeff Sims announced his commitment to Nebraska a week after taking an official visit to Lincoln. Sims was one of two transfer portal quarterbacks to visit Lincoln this month, along with former Arkansas Razorback Malik Hornsby.

Sims threw for 1,115 yards with a 58.5% completion rate with five touchdowns and three interceptions this past season. Those numbers fell below his output during his first two seasons in Atlanta due to a foot sprain. Sims combined for 3,367 yards, 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in his first two years as a Yellow Jacket.
He adds depth to the Nebraska quarterback room. Last year’s starting quarterback Casey Thompson hasn’t shared his intentions for next season but will undergo shoulder surgery in the offseason. Nebraska’s offense lagged when Thompson missed two and a half games with a nerve injury in 2022.
Sims is a former composite 4-star recruit from Jacksonville, Florida.
He’s the fifth announced recruit of this weekend for Nebraska and third addition via the transfer portal. The Huskers also added long snapper Marco Ortiz and defensive back Corey Collier Jr. from Florida via the portal already. Sims is the 20th total acquisition in Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class.
