Georgia Multi-Sport Athlete Leslie Black Commits to Walk-On at Nebraska

May 08, 2023

Nebraska added another preferred walk-on to its 2023 signing class on Monday, just weeks before the Huskers start summer camp.

Leslie Black, an unranked defensive end and tight end from Statesboro, Georgia, announced his commitment to Nebraska. He’s a former regional player of the year and all-state honorable mention recipient. Black is 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds and lists his bench at 280, squat max at 370 and clean at 285. In posted statistics across MaxPreps, Black made 51 tackles in 14 games for Statesboro. He also played center on the Statesboro basketball team.

In his announcement, Black tagged head coach Matt Rhule, defensive line coach Terrance Knighton and secondary coach/recruiting evaluator Evan Cooper.

Black turned down offers from Southern Illinois, Savannah State and others to join the Huskers.

Black’s decision follows additional walk-on arrivals of Caden Becker and David Borchers. Becker is a former Omaha Skutt standout who transferred to walk-on at Nebraska after a season on scholarship in Wyoming. Borchers elected to walk-on at Nebraska instead of potentially playing junior college football. Arlington Martin High’s Gage Wager, Elkhorn South’s Cole Ballard, Gretna’s Korver Demma, Bellevue West’s Cayden Echternach, Omaha Burke’s Mason Jones, Oakland-Craig’s Grant Seagren, Elkhorn Mount Michael’s Conor Cannealy and Omaha Westside’s Will DePooter are also preferred walk-ons in Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class.
