Nebraska hosted a number of prospects and their families this weekend for the first night game of the season against Northern Illinois. The Huskers put on quite the show on defense, allowing just 74 yards of rushing in the game. One of the official visitors impressed with what he saw in Lincoln was 3-star (HV Rating: 87.0) defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu.
Tuipulotu has become a key target for Nebraska who like his frame (6-3, 254) and athleticism along the defensive line. During his junior season, Tuipulotu racked up 95 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
I caught up with the California defender to get his thoughts on the reuniting with defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, impressions of Nebraska and more.
Here is the full Q&A:
What were your overall thoughts on the trip?
“The main thing that caught my attention was the fan base. It was crazy to see so many people in the stadium but also all the people tailgating.”
What did you expect coming in? Did the visit meet or pass your expectations?
“No offense, but I expected Nebraska to be quiet and look more country. But when I got into Lincoln it was the opposite. It was awesome.”
What was it like being around Tuioti again? How has that relationship grown?
“It was good to be around Coach because he always trying to help me. Our relationship for sure got bigger this weekend.”
How did you like being around the other recruits and commits?
“It was good to get to know them and see their perspective and thoughts on Nebraska. I talked a little to Nash [Hutmacher], a commit. I also talked to Nusi Malani a lot.”
Were you able to start building a bond with Malani since he’s another California kid that could be a future teammate?
“Yeah, we knew each other before the Nebraska visit so it was cool.”
What would you say are some of the things you are most looking for in a school?
“One important thing I’m looking forward to in a school is a place where I can feel comfortable and where I can fit in. Also, a place where I can develop as a football player.”
Do you have a decision timeline in mind?
“Late in the season.”
Do you have other official visits planned?
“I have no other officials 100% planned yet.”
What were some of the most memorable things about the trip to Lincoln?
“Some fun memories were just chilling with the team after the game and getting to know them.”
