Huskers’ History Stands Out to 3-Star OL Taylor Miterko

May 03, 2018

Nebraska’s search for difference makers on the offensive line has led them all over the country. The Huskers typically recruit from coast to coast but it’s not often that you see them recruiting a player in New Mexico. In the class of 2019, there is a player in the “Land of Enchantment” who has the attention of offensive line coach Greg Austin. Three-star offensive lineman (HV Rating: 84.8) Taylor Miterko‍ (6-4, 260) needs to be on Husker fans radar.

Miterko tells me that he’s been in contact with the staff for about six weeks and picked up his offer on April 3rd. Austin is the coach he is in most frequent contact with and Miterko had some positive things to say about the man trying to restore the pipeline.

“He came to my school not that long ago, last week”, Miterko said. “I had good time with him. He’s a very good guy. He had a lot of good things to say about me and about Nebraska. I actually had a conversation with him and my parents last night. He gave us some information that we’ve been wondering about Nebraska.”

The lineman from Carlsbad High School in New Mexico didn’t give me all the details of what was said in that conversation but there was one important thing that did come up. The matter of a potential visit to Lincoln.

“We are discussing a visit, Miterko said. "Depending on the time period when we can do it best, I would like to get up to Lincoln for a visit. I would probably do an unofficial in the summertime. I’m going to save my five officials for my top five schools.”

As for the some of the other schools standing out to Miterko that could end up in his top five schools, he says he definitely has his eye on some of the Big 12 schools like TCU and Texas Tech. However, with Nebraska being a Big Ten school, they are high on his list. Miterko says that what makes Nebraska stand out is them being known for their offensive lines and lines of the past. He also holds offers from Colorado, Oregon, and Oklahoma State among others.

Style of offense doesn’t matter much to the lineman. He told me his high school runs a power offense, running the ball pretty much every play but he sees a fit for himself in many types of styles. Miterko is focused on his academics as well with an eye on mechanical engineering.

Miterko has no plans for camps but “definitely” will be taking visits this summer.
