The Huskers have their first junior college commitment of the 2022 recruiting class.
Hutchinson Community College defensive back DeShon Singleton joined the class on Tuesday. He made his announcement on Twitter.

The rangy defensive back (6-3, 200) took an official visit mid-week from Dec. 7-Dec. 9. Singleton was a full-qualifier when he went to Hutchinson earlier this year. He’ll have four years to complete three seasons in Lincoln. The defensive back had a good season for Hutchinson. He finished with 21 tackles and two interceptions. He also chipped in three tackles for loss during the 2021 season.
Nebraska is likely to give him a shot at cracking the safety rotation during the 2022 season. The Huskers have been focused on finding immediate help in the secondary and his experience at the junior college level could help him push for a role opposite Myles Farmer. That’s if he can capitalize on the opportunity because the Huskers do have several other players vying for that spot. Noa Pola-Gates, Koby Bretz and others are hoping to get a shot. Marques Buford can be a swiss-army knife type player for the team who can bounce from corner to safety if needed.
The Huskers still have holes in the defensive back pipeline. The effects of losing Jaiden Francois, Ronald Delancy and Henry Gray are still being felt. Losing each in the same year created a gap in the scholarship distribution. Look for the Huskers to continue adding defensive back help this recruiting cycle. Singleton is the first JUCO player for the Huskers since the 2020 recruiting class. That cycle the Huskers took five JUCO players. Omar Manning, Eteva Muaga-Clements, Niko Cooper, Pheldarius Payne and Jordon Riley all signed with Nebraska.
Singleton, a Louisiana native, picked the Huskers over Kansas State. He took an official visit to Manhattan after taking his mid-week official to Nebraska.
