Huskers Learn Fate of Top Offensive Lineman Prospect’s Appeal

August 29, 2018

Nebraska’s recruiting weekend just got a big boost both literally and figuratively.

Last week in Big Red Recon, I reported that 4-star (HV Rating: 91.5) offensive lineman Bryce Benhart‍'s situation was a bit tricky. Technically, a recruit can’t take an official visit before their high school academic year has started. Benhart’s school does not start until the week after the Akron game so Nebraska was petitioning the NCAA to allow him to visit for the season opener.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Benhart has received the waiver from the NCAA and will be in Lincoln for an official visit this weekend.

The Huskers currently have three offensive line prospects committed for the 2019 class. Matthew Anderson‍, JUCO 3-star (HV Rating: 86.8) Desmond Bland‍ and 3-star (HV Rating: 85.0) Michael Lynn‍ have all verbally committed to Nebraska.

I still project that Nebraska will take at least two more offensive lineman this cycle and the Minnesota native is near the top of offensive line coach Greg Austin’s big board.

Nebraska is in a battle with Wisconsin and Michigan for Benhart but I like the current position that the Huskers have. Benhart and his dad visited Lincoln this past spring which got the Huskers back in the mix after they made a quick bond with the staff.
