There may not be a hotter prospect in the country than Lackawanna junior college cornerback De’Jahn Warren. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defender has seen his offer list grow from three to over 15 in February. Georgia, Alabama, Penn State and Nebraska are just a few of his recent offers.

“When I first got the offer [from Nebraska], I thought about how cool it would be to play with my old teammate Pheldarius Payne,” Warren told Hail Varsity. “We already have chemistry so we know how we operate on the field together. That’s the first thing that went through my mind.”
The cornerback said that he’s been talking to Payne about Nebraska, who has been telling Warren about how great of a place it is. Payne has been doing his part to peer recruit too, trying to convince Warren to come visit Lincoln. Nebraska isn’t the only school trying to get the talented corner out for a visit though.
“I just have to find what exact dates I have set to visit certain schools,” Warren said. “Between that time, I’m going to make visits. My whole goal is to get out and go experience schools. It’s my first time being recruited so I want to experience different things.”
Warren is on schedule to be a December graduate. He is also coming off a JUCO All-American season where he recorded five interceptions, blocked five kicks and forced three fumbles while helping Lackawanna to the JUCO National Championship game.
All of the recent attention has been overwhelming at times, but Warren is thankful because it shows that his hard work is paying off. A lot of schools are clearly seeing something to intrigue them to offer, but what does Warren think stands out about his game?
“I would say my strengths are my ball skills and press coverage,” he said. “I can play any coverage but I prefer to be in press. I like to slow things down early and throw the offenses’ timing off early. So personally, I’d say my press coverage, ball skills and my hits.”
It will be Warren’s first season playing cornerback full-time, so his big goal for this season is to develop as a corner. He was a safety and a wide receiver in high school and those offensive skills have helped him make the transition.
“For one, I can think from a receiver’s point of view,” Warren said. “I know the first they’d try to do is give me a move off the line. When they open up a certain way I know what they will do because I’ve been there before. It helps me tremendously actually.”
Warren has spent some time talking with and FaceTiming defensive backs coach Travis Fisher. They are hitting it off so far and the Maryland native describes him as a “pretty cool dude.” It would be great for Nebraska if things continue to go well between Warren and Fisher because that’s one of the top things Warren is looking for in a program.
“A good DB coach,” Warren said. “Somewhere that I can call home and they have to have good academics. Also, a good fan base.”
