JUCO DT Perrion Winfrey ‘at a Loss for Words’ in Memorial Stadium

May 26, 2019

In the time that Scott Frost has been in charge of the Nebraska football program, the Huskers have slowly tried to build a pipeline into Iowa Western Community College. It’s one of the top programs at the junior college level and the school is located just across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa. On a yearly basis, the Reivers send multiple players to Division I schools and this year will be no different.

One of the most sought-after players on their team this season is defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey‍. The defender just included the Huskers in his top eight group on Saturday. Over the weekend, Winfrey and a group of his teammates visited Lincoln for an unofficial visit. I caught up with him to get his thoughts on the trip, what stood out to him and when he would like a decision made by.

Here is the full interview, which was conducted via Twitter direct message and only edited for clarity:

What were your overall thoughts on the visit?

“It was great, really left me thinking. We had great conversations. I really loved everything overall.”

What stood out the most to you on the visit?

“Everything really. When they showed us the field, I was at a loss for words.”

What did you think of your time with defensive coordinator Erik Chinander and defensive line coach Tony Tuioti?

“They’re honestly great people and you can really tell they care about their players.”

Do you think you’ll take an official to Nebraska? Did you talk about that on the trip?

“Yes, we have talked about an official. I’m not sure when we’re going to set it up though.”

When would you like to have a decision made?

“I would like to decide before the season.”

Are you on track for a December graduation?

“Yes, I’m definitely graduating in December.”

What would you say you are most looking for in a future school?

“I’m definitely looking for a school where I can come in and dominate from the jump.”
