JUCO Offensive Tackle Makes Quick Trip To Lincoln

October 26, 2018

Nebraska’s search for offensive linemen to make an impact in the program has led them all over the country. A new target has popped up at the junior college level that the Huskers are keeping a close eye on.

Bailey Malovic‍ (6-7, 290) is a tackle prospect at Highland Community College in Highlands, Kansas. The Huskers have not been down to see him play yet but were impressed enough with his film to keep in contact and invite him for a quick visit on Friday.

I caught up with Malovic after his trip to get his thoughts on his recruitment so far and his interest in Nebraska.

Here is the full Q&A of our interview.

How long have you been in contact with the staff?

“Probably since the first or second game of our season.”

What has the communication been like so far?

“It’s been pretty good. I got to really talk to [running back coach and JUCO recruiting coordinator Ryan] Held a lot. That’s really who I’ve been talking to, Coach Held.”

What did the staff like about your film?

“They like my athleticism, I have great weight, tall. I just have to put on weight and get in a weight program.”

Did Held offer you?

“We are still talking about that.”

How was the visit up to Lincoln today?

“I got to watch them on the Friday practice in the morning. Then I got to tour around a little but not too much. I got to sit down with the offensive line coach [Greg Austin] and talk with him. I got to meet some of the other coaches. I met Scott Frost. It was pretty cool.”

How was your conversation with Austin?

“It was good. We got to sit down and watch film. I like watching film. He told me how he coaches and stuff like that. He told me his background. I had a good time.”

When do you graduate?

“I graduate in December.”

Do you plan to make a return trip to a game at this point?

“I’m going to wait and see. I don’t know. If they offer me. Really, I’m just waiting on the offer.”

What other schools have you been talking to?

“I have offers from Coastal Carolina, UAB, UT-Martin, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Tennessee-State, Old Dominion and that’s it I believe right now. I’m talking to UTEP, South Carolina and that’s it right now.”

What are you looking for most in a future school?

“The next school I go to, I’m looking for someone with a great weight program, somewhere that can continue to develop me. A place that I fit in a feel comfortable. I’m looking for a great atmosphere. Those are the things that stand out to me the most thinking about where I want to go next.”
