Nebraska’s running back situation has just become a little bit clearer. Dedrick Mills — the running back from Garden City Community College—has been admitted to Nebraska a source confirmed to Hail Varsity. It was also confirmed that Mills will join the Huskers in Lincoln on Wednesday.
Mills’ status with Nebraska was uncertain until early this week when his final grades from Garden City finally came back. As of Monday, things appeared to be trending in the right direction for Mills to join the Huskers for summer workouts within days.
Last fall, as a sophomore at Garden City, Mills rushed Mills rushed for 1,358 yards and 19 touchdowns on 5.8 yards per carry in 10 games. As a freshman at Georgia Tech, he was named the 2016 ACC Freshman of the Year after rushing for more than 700 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also averaged 85 yards per game.
Mills was dismissed from Georgia Tech prior to his sophomore season. He missed the 2017 season due to injury before returning to the field with GCCC in 2018.
Mills joins incoming freshmen Rahmir Johnson and Ronald Thompkins in running backs coach Ryan Held's room. His admittance to Nebraska is also welcome news with the status of sophomore Maurice Washington, who awaits a resolultion in ongoing legal proceedings in California.
