Kearney Catholic QB Haarberg Enjoys Huskers First Spring Practice

March 10, 2020

The Huskers held their first spring practice on Monday. It’s important that the team gets prospects on campus for those practices. It allows them to see how the coaching staff and players interact when no one is around for their fast-paced practices.

The team wasted no time in hosting Kearney Catholic quarterback Heinrich Haarberg. The signal-caller told Hail Varsity that he was in town for the opening practice. He commented it was really good got to watch quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco in action. Haarberg also explained it was also good to talk with him and Scott Frost.

Haarberg has been to Lincoln several times now. Because of that, he is seeing his relationship with Frost and Verduzco grow with each visit.

“It was a really good talk,” he said. “Coach Frost just really reinforced that he wants me in his QB room and the only thing he needs is to see me throw.”

The signal-caller, who threw for 1,869 yards and 23 touchdowns with another 458 yards rushing and four more scores, has also bonded with Frost. It goes beyond the fact that they played the same position.

“My relationship with Coach Frost is amazing,” he explained. “Just because we come from almost the same location playing at the same level. It’s really cool to be able to talk about central Nebraska football with him and just his experiences.”

Haarberg enjoyed being able to check out Nebraska’s offense up close. In his eyes, it looks like an offense that he could run and flourish in with hard work and knowledge. This weekend he will head up to Fargo to check out North Dakota State. After that he will check out Duke while in Charlotte for a camp event.

Still, there are some things that will stick with Haarberg about his most recent visit to Lincoln.

“[What stood out was] how each of the coaches took time out of practice to say hi to me and ask how I’ve been,” Haarberg explained. “Most importantly the way practice was run with the speed and tempo and always moving.”

The Kearney Catholic star will be someone to keep tabs on throughout the spring and summer. He hasn’t received an offer from Nebraska yet but the team is clearly interested and likes him a great deal.
