Legacy Raiola Recruits Coming To Lincoln For Illinois Game

October 29, 2022

The two sons of former Husker Dominic Raiola are coming to Memorial Stadium on unofficial visits today for Nebraska’s game against Illinois. They are also both nephews of current Nebraska offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.

Dylan, a junior, and Dayton, a freshman, of Chandler High School outside Phoenix, Arizona, are both on the list of recruits in the building for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff. Dylan is the No. 1 recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and committed to Ohio State in May and one of the few 5-star recruits to visit Memorial Stadium. Dayton is the quarterback for Chandler’s freshman team and received his first college offer after Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph visited Arizona on the recruiting trail last week.

There was hope among Nebraska to land Dylan in the spring. He came to Nebraska’s Spring Game on April 9 and saw the stadium that retired his father’s No. 54 but committed to Ohio State the following month. Nebraska hired Donovan Raiola in the spring as the program’s new offensive line coach after he spent four years with the Chicago Bears.

Dylan quarterbacked Chandler High School against Basha High School, a game that was broadcasted on ESPN.

Nebraska has only signed two 5-star recruits in the history of recruiting rankings, according to 247Sports’ database. Marlon Lucky is the highest-rated commit in program history with a 0.9950 composite score in addition to the stars. Chris Septak is the only other 5-star recruit, who scored a 0.9833 composite score. For further context, Ndamukong Suh was a 4-star recruit and composite 0.9797, Current offensive lineman Turner Corcoran was a 4-star recruit with a 0.9748 composite score. Dylan Raiola’s composite score is 1.000.

Lincoln East standout Malachi Coleman right now is the No. 15 commit in program history with his 0.9627 composite score. Coleman will also be on the sidelines today.

Also at Memorial Stadium will be lineman Bo Hughley of Langston Hughes High School in Georgia. Hughley is a 6-foot-7, 290-pound senior who committed to Georgia. He’s been selected for the Polynesian Bowl and took an official visit to Lincoln back in June. His high school teammates Jediyah Willoughby will also be on the sidelines today. He received an offer from Nebraska last week.

The Huskers are also hosting a few Kansas City-area recruits. There’s 3-star junior receiver David Dossett (Lee’s Summit), 3-star junior athlete Keelan Smith (Liberty), 3-star junior receiver Marcus Neal (Raytown) and sophomore lineman Brock Heath. Nebraska is also hosting St. Louis-area recruits like edge rusher Marquis Coleman, his high school teammates, 3-star junior lineman Demetrius Jones and sophomore running back Karvon Jefferson, 3-star senior safety Elijah Thomas and junior athlete Allen Brown III.

Bellevue West standouts Daniel Kaelin and Isaiah McMorris are scheduled to visit along with other in-state recruits with scholarship offers Gretna’s Mason Goldman, Tyson Terry of Omaha North and Omaha Westside’s Caleb Benning.

Nebraska also welcomes Class of 2023 commits Gunnar Gottula (Lincoln Southeast), Sam Sledge (Creighton Prep) and Barry Jackson (Ellenwood, Georgia) to Saturday’s game as well. Preferred walk-on commit Korver Demma of Gretna will also be on the sidelines.
