The Huskers have added a second in-state player to the 2022 recruiting class.
Nebraska received some more good news on Sunday when Lincoln Southeast athlete Jake Appleget announced his decision to join the class. He broke the news on Twitter.

Appleget (6-4, 215) joins fellow linebacker from Columbus Ernest Hausmann as Nebraskans in the class. The defender was on Nebraska’s campus this weekend for his official visit. Prior to the trip he told Hail Varsity what he was hoping to see while in Lincoln.
“I’m really looking forward to getting a better feel for the campus itself,” Appleget said. “Also, the coaches and the vibe around the football players.”
Appleget directly benefitted this summer from the new rule allowing players to work out privately for schools. The Huskers made it a point to get him on campus the first day allowed to do that work out. After that work out he picked up an offer from Nebraska and was thrilled.
“Coach Frost the linebacker coaches had been saying you’re doing really good and testing well. I was kind of hoping that the offer was coming,” Appleget said. “When Frost offered me, it was kind of a surreal moment. I just kind of got chills throughout my whole body hearing the words come out that we want to offer you a scholarship. It was pretty amazing and meant a little bit more, you know, being an in-state kid.”
The Huskers beat out Minnesota and several other schools for Appleget. He’s now the seventh player to commit to Nebraska for the 2022 recruiting class. He’s the second linebacker to commit to the class as well. He has position flexibility to play either inside or outside linebacker in college.
Appleget is the second commitment of the weekend for the Huskers who are on a nice roll during June.
