Linebacker Commit Ernest Hausmann’s Official Visit Only Ups His Excitement for the Huskers

June 21, 2021

Things are a little different on your official visit when you come into it as a commit. Columbus 3-star linebacker Ernest Hausmann knew a lot about his future home, but there was so much more that he learned over the weekend.

“I thought it was really cool seeing the strength and conditioning program,” Hausmann said. “First of all, the technology to help better the athletes was really cool and unique. The coaches made a really great point of how all the programs don’t treat every person the same. That wouldn’t be good. They’re really specific to each individual’s needs. So that was really cool.

“Through each meeting I think I learned a lot more because Zoom is pretty limited with things that they can talk about. A lot of things were cool to hear about. I also got to get a feel for what a day in the life is like that I’d be getting there. I got a good picture of what it’d feel like.”

There were a lot of meetings over the weekend. Hausmann said that everything was planned to the minute. It was a combination of meals, tours and meetings with different personnel. His favorite thing that he ate all weekend was the breakfast on Sunday, which was a nice buffet.

“Oh man, it was awesome,” Hausmann said. “Just being able to see each person during the day or many times in the day, you really build that relationship with them. It makes you really comfortable with them.

“You just really feel the love the coaches have for their program and the players. It’s a players-first staff. In the program they do everything to better players and to help them with their success. I really like that.”

Hausmann was able to meet with the coaching staff and many people in different roles in the program. He also enjoyed hanging out with his player host Randolph Kpai, who he described as a great and humble guy.

The future Blackshirt is enthusiastic about helping his school by peer recruiting. He didn’t get to do it as much as he thought. Each visitor had specific things they were doing while on the trip. There was time before meetings or during meals where he could chat with the other three visitors. Hausmann was excited to hang out with Lincoln Southeast’s Jake Appleget, who he knew from summer basketball.

Hausmann is ready to focus on his senior season of football. Then he will early-enroll at Nebraska in the winter. He knew early in the recruiting process that whatever school he ended up at, he would enroll at semester. He praised Nebraska for how easy they made the process and how helpful the staff is.

“The benefits are just huge,” Hausmann said. “You just get to have a head start on things. Learning the playbook early helps too. It just helps that transition. Then when the fall starts, I don’t have the hassle of not knowing what to do. Then I’ll know the routine so I can just improve and get better.”
