Nebraska continues to add preferred walk-ons to its 2023 recruiting class just weeks before the team regroups for summer workouts.
Jacob Bower, a linebacker for San Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, announced his commitment earlier this week on Instagram. Bower made 116 tackles last season, 9.0 TFLs and 4.5 sacks. He earned Defensive MVP honors within the team after being named team captain. In addition to snaps at linebacker and defensive back, he served as the team’s long snapper in his final two seasons. He’s listed at 6 feet, 195 pounds, in the San Margarita Catholic roster available on MaxPreps.
The newest member of Nebraska’s walk-on class also spent summer football camps at UCLA, Sacramento State and Mater Dei High School. He also competed in a tight end camp held by former members of the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears.
Bower is a multi-sport athlete who split his time between football and rugby. He was selected to the U.S. Under-18 developmental rugby team. As a outside center and wing for the USA U18 Junior Eagles, he started for the undefeated team that beat Belgium, Canada and the Netherlands. Bower also spent time with the San Diego Legion Academy and South OC Raptors rugby teams.
Bower committed almost simultaneous with Georgia native Leslie Black on Monday. The Huskers also gained new preferred walk-ons in Caden Becker and David Borchers. They make up the new preferred walk-on class alongside Arlington (Texas) Martin’s Gage Wager, Elkhorn South’s Cole Ballard, Gretna’s Korver Demma, Bellevue West’s Cayden Echternach, Omaha Burke’s Mason Jones, Oakland-Craig’s Grant Seagren, Elkhorn Mount Michael’s Conor Cannealy and Omaha Westside’s Will DePooter.
