Nebraska’s June recruiting roll continued and the pipeline to Texas provided another future Blackshirt.
Carlon Jones, a 3-star defensive lineman from Bay City, Texas, announced his commitment to the Huskers on Thursday. He took an official visit to Nebraska at the beginning of the month. His commitment followed official visits to Cal, Oklahoma State, TCU and Georgia Tech. He joins former high school teammate Brice Turner as Husker commitments from Bay City, between Houston and Corpus Christi on Highway 35.

Jones, 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, tallied 165 tackles, 40 TFLs and 15 sacks in the last two seasons. The vast majority of those (102 tackles, 25 TFLs and 13 sacks) came during his junior season. Those accolades earned him Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors within the district. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, one of the most reputable outlets covering all levels of football in Texas, recently named Jones the Preseason Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year. Jones also competed in track this past spring where he threw 45 feet, 5 inches in the shot put.
The Bay City big man is the No. 22 commitment in Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class. He is the seventh member of the class from Texas. Jones is the second true defensive lineman in the class along with Elkhorn South standout Ashton Murphy. Willis McGahee IV is a projected edge rusher and Jack linebacker at Nebraska.
With Jones’ commitment, Nebraska stands No. 14 in the overall composite recruiting rankings.
