A lot of prospects made their way to Lincoln this weekend for the Huskers’ big Junior Day. Nebraska continued to flex its national recruiting muscles with tweleve states represented. One player that traveled far was Winter Garden, Florida, linebacker Danny Stutsman.

The temperature in Lincoln was in the 30s during his visit but it didn’t put a damper on things for the defender from the Sunshine State.
“I thought the weather would be worse honestly,” Stutsman said. “I thought it would be extremely cold. It’s cold but not that bad. I came out very surprised about the strength and conditioning program. It is definitely top-of-the-line for sure. I’m very intrigued by all the things they are building the next couple years. They can be a top team in the NCAA.”
Stutsman made the trip because he says that Nebraska has shown a lot of interest in him since he started getting recruited. He felt he should make it a top priority to come out and see what the school has to offer. Tight ends coach Sean Beckton has been the main recruiter for the linebacker. It turns out they have a unique connection since Beckton is friends with Stutsman’s neighbor.
The defender said that his father, Steve, came with him on the trip. Steve was surprised with what he saw in Lincoln. He also thought the trip exceeded the expectations that he had coming in. The pair was able to get a strength and conditioning presentation, tour the facilities and learn about what is coming in the new building. Danny was also impressed with the academic side of things at Nebraska. Particularly, the strong history of Academic All-Americans.
They had a good meeting with Frost and Stutsman says they hit it off because they have some similarities. He was productive during his junior season tallying 93 tackles with 17 for loss, three sacks and four forced fumbles. Coming up next, they will visit South Florida before heading to Virginia Tech in March. The Foundation Academy star is looking for the best fit in a future school no matter the distance.
Danny learned first-hand about Husker fans’ passion for the program. That will stick with him well after the visit.
"Knowing that there have been 375 consecutive sellout games," he said. "That’s ridiculous. It’s unheard of.”
